Boris Vallejo gives this cover the full sword-and-sorcery treatment: bare-chested warrior, red cape flying, horse at full gallop, and a dragon dropping out of the sky like somebody just failed a very important encounter roll. Everything is moving. The rider attacks, the horse bolts, the dragon dives, and that enormous empty sky makes the whole fight feel even more hopelessly mismatched. It’s vintage fantasy paperback logic at its finest: if an enchanted war is threatening the kingdom, obviously the answer is one determined man on horseback waving a sword at several tons of airborne reptile.
